Brick retrieval (timed event: 1 minute, 40 seconds)

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.

This is a Blended Learning Course where you must do a portion of the training online FIRST before you can attend the class. Failure to complete the online portion of the class prior to the start of the in-person session will result in removal from the course. *

Once you are registered, you will receive an e-mail within 24 hours that outlines what needs to be done online. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation letter that will need to be brought to the training on the first day.

The first day for the in-person session includes a pre-course consisting of the following;

Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles are allowed.

Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.

Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they can get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance underwater.

Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Participants are allowed 1 re-attempt for each portion of the pre-course. Failure to complete any part of the pre-course will result in removal from the course and a credit/refund minus a $50 service charge.

At the conclusion of the in-person session, participants will have a final exam, consisting of 2 multiple-choice tests, one for Lifeguarding and one for First Aid/CPR/AED. 80% or better is required to pass. You are allowed one re-attempt for each portion of the final exam. Failure to achieve 80% or higher on both exams will result in participants failing the course. **
