Barb has over thirty years of tennis playing and teaching experience.  She has two tennis teaching certifications: the first as a Professional from the United States Professional Tennis Association, earned in 1998, and the second from the United States Professional Tennis Registry, earned in 1987. She graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1986.

Barb’s playing background includes Division 1 experience and competition in 14 years of sanctioned tournaments at the state and regional levels.  She has earned rankings in the Women’s Open singles division as high as #8 in Maryland and #14 in the Mid-Atlantic.

Barb taught elementary school from 1987 to 1994, teaching tennis over many summers.  Her favorite summer job was being Head Tennis Pro at Vineyard Haven Yacht Club on Martha’s Vineyard Island during the summers of 1989 and 1990.  She first joined MRHC staff as a Tennis Professional in 1994, and loves being a part of the warm and friendly McLean Racquet and health Club community.

Barb is happily married to Griff Lamkin.  Together they love spending time with their son, Bradley, who is also a tennis enthusiast!  Barb combines her loves of tennis teaching, school teaching, playing experience, and parenting to make her classes motivational and instructional.  She especially enjoys teaching singles and double strategy, providing clear stroke diagnosis, and mental toughness training.  Barb wants you to have fun while making a difference in your game.  She enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels. Barb looks forward for sharing her love of the game with you!
