FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about our Junior Tennis Programs
Q: My child is very shy and has little experience with sports.I’d like to introduce him to tennis because I think it would be good for his self-esteem and confidence. Which program would be best for my child?
A: The Junior Clinic Program, which runs from September to June, would be an excellent choice. Designed for children of all experience levels, our goal is to get kids hooked on tennis as a sport of a lifetime and for them to absolutely love the game. Casey, Kristina, and Griff are experienced USPTA/PTR certified tennis professionals who will inspire your children to improve their tennis games in a relaxed, positive environment. In the process, they will experience increased focus, concentration, and a boost in confidence and self-esteem.
Q: My child enjoys participating in the tennis clinics, and is now showing an interest in wanting to play more. Do you have a program that offers supervised match play?
A: Yes, it is called Junior Match Play—Players of similar skill level play one another every Saturday evening. This program, run by Johan, has a large database of registered players (90+) so children of all skill levels will have an opportunity to play matches in an organized setting against players of similar ability. By playing actual games, each child will learn which skills they need to Improve in order to become better players and will provide an added incentive to work even harder during the clinics.
Q: My child is performing well in the above programs and has been winning lots of local tennis matches. He/She has really caught the “tennis bug” and has a desire to someday play on her high school varsity tennis team and play tournament tennis. Do you have a program for children interested in pursuing higher level competitive tennis?
A: Yes we do. In our Advanced Player Clinics and Tennis Fitness Programs, Sean and Johan develop the necessary footwork, shot making skills, and advanced match strategies for competition at the higher levels of competitive tennis. In addition, fitness is emphasized as a necessity to compete at the advanced level. The players in these programs are a perfect fit to represent MRHC in Junior Team Tennis, a USTA sanctioned league which provides year-round team competition. Irene provides excellent organization and leadership for our travel teams that compete in weekly local club matches, with opportunities to qualify for regional and statewide playoffs.
Q: How do I register?
A: Junior Clinics — Choose a day and time (or multiple days/times) and sign up early so that you get a class for your child that fits your schedule.Note: We use 3 courts for our weekday clinics, “All Levels” means we divide the court groupings between beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. A USPTA/PTR certified tennis professional will coach each court. Junior Clinics begin the week before Labor Day, but registration begins in July. As classes fill quickly, we encourage you to register early. Also, should you decide to join the club, you will save a considerable of money on Junior Clinics and all other tennis programming. In addition, indoor court time for you and your children would come at no additional cost.
A: Junior Match Play has a flexible sign up program. Johan emails parents of participants weekly to check player’s availability. Register for a “5-pack” allows you to schedule your children’s matches for the weeks they (and you) are available. This gives you maximum Saturday night flexibility.
A: Advanced Player Clinics – These groups require evaluation – the best approach is to enter one of the Junior Clinics (or summer camps) of similar age level (pay for one class to try out), the pro can recommend the right level and plan for you.Register for evaluation in the summer and/or early fall (the earlier the better!) as these classes fill quickly. Membership may be required for Advanced Player Clinics.
A: Junior Team Tennis – The team tennis program has two 10-week seasons with no matches during holidays, (Late October through Late January) and (Late February through Mid-May). The league also provides a summer abbreviated schedule (6-8 weeks). The registration comes out on the club’s website approximately one month prior to the season. Please complete the registration and Irene will work with the staff to place your child on an appropriate team. The skill level of this league is very high so it’s important to have your child evaluated (see Advanced Player Clinic evaluation above).
